Τhe stimulus 250x140cm (2021, acrylics on canvas)
An old project of mine that I had painted while I was studying was the reason to start. Α project that I had serious doubts about and could say that it wasn't my favorite at that time. A professor had told me something that I've never forgotten, even after 12 years. «You will appreciate this painting after years». And so, it happened. It took many years for me to understand its value and what my professor meant to say. It was this bed with the broken leg and the burgundy blanket. I still remember the professor's criticism. He had told me that we don't need to show exactly what we want, but to create a journey for the viewer, a dream. Let them imagine something on their own. An image we create might remind them of their own story and identify themselves with our work.
I would like to create similar situations in my current projects. Therefore, I choose abandoned spaces in which I place the naked figure.
I would like the remnants of decay to create memories and life for the future. With the bodies in a new space-time, deriving memories from the past that are reflected in their present.
Just as entire houses teeming with life are stripped bare, so are people stripped bare by the decay and corruption that time brings. A vicious circle. Our roots, our place leave their own remains with us.
